| I love my grill pan. I especially like the high sides to collect the oil and grease that most other flat grill pans don't have. It makes those neat grill lines in the meat and doesn't stick to the bottom. I rate it 5-stars because it is everything I expected and wanted in a grill pan. |

I love Calphalon. I needed this grill pan as we are living overseas and are without our grill. No complaints!
The only thing is that it cannot be shipped to an FPO. So find someone in the States to send it to and then have them send it to you. |
Anyone able to clean Calphalon of charred on food?

These Calphalon grill pans do clean up quickly, if you DON'T burn food to a carbon char. I have some Calphalon pans with burned on food that won't wash off, especially in the valleys between the grill ridges. I am afraid to scrub on the pan, because I might wear away the non-stick surface. Perhaps the pans have been ruined. I hope not.
I give these pans 3 out of 5 stars because of the requirement to train and pester the cooks to AVOID using high heat. LOL!
Here are Calphalon's "manufacturer" recommendations, posted here at Amazon, at this link, for the Calphalon One Nonstick 8-Inch Fry Pan.
[...]
"... The nonstick cooking surface releases foods as easily during clean-up as it does while you cook. To keep your cookware looking new, occasionally clean it with a Scotch Brite pad and Barkeeper's Friend cleanser...."
Anyone try this? Scotch Brite pad and Barkeeper's Friend sound a little extreme. Probably much too abrasive. Would certainly scour off the char, but would probably remove some of the non-stick coating.
But at Calphalon's site, recommendations are much different, instructing user to NOT use abrasives:
[...]
"...Hand wash your cookware thoroughly inside and out after every use. Wash with warm, sudsy water and a sponge. After sautéing or frying, we recommend cleaning nonstick pans with a nylon sponge or soft bristle brush and a recommended non-abrasive cleanser (see below) to remove any food residue.
Recommended Cleaners
Dawn® liquid dishwashing detergent (Do NOT use automatic dishwashing detergents for hand-washing purposes.)
Recommended Cleaning Pad
Sponge or soft bristle brush
DO NOT USE
Abrasive cleansers or cleaning pads, oven cleaners or other caustic cleaning solutions, baking soda, automatic dishwasher detergent, liquid bleach, liquid household cleaners used for floors, porcelain, etc..."
Can anyone share their experience with cleaning Calphalon pans that have burned on food that will not wash off with detergent and brush?
(Yes, I know.-- I probably need to try to train the cooks to use a lower heat with these non-stick pans, or go back to stainless pans that I can restore with a polish with abrasive cleaners.) |

| So far, this pan is great. I've only used it a few times but it does just what it is supposed to do. Cast iron may be a bit better but is too heavy for someone with arthritic hands. This pan does the job without the weight of cast iron. |
