Sharp! Well-made...but BIG!

Got these on a Black Friay purchase on Amazon.com. Turns out the price wasn't a whole lot less than a normal special (shame on me). But the knives are well made, and have good steel quality (high carbon ratio >>> holds cut edge well). Only thing is...I have big hands...but these knives are BIG! I haven't measured them, but I think they've got to be made to cut very large pieces of meat. Overall, I do recommend them because they feel good, work well and are well-made, but next time (next life?) I might consider the size of the implement.

| These knives are quality all the way. The box is well constructed and the knives are made with steel all through the handle. I gave them as a gift and then wished I had bought some for myself. |
Pros and Cons

| First let me address the packaging issue that other reviewers have mentioned. When these knives arrived they carried a sticker that said something about 'Amazon packing guarantee' and they were very well packed indeed - the knives each had plastic tip guards attached, each were encased inside their own plastic sleeve and then nestled inside a black foam cut-out within the black presentation box - this in turn was packed inside a cardboard box, which in its turn was packed in yet another cardboard box with packing peanuts. Maybe a pain to get into, but they seem to have resolved any packing issues. Now on to the knives themselves. I know they say you're never supposed to have serrated knives for meat - serrations 'chew' through meat and the idea is you don't want your meat chewed before You chew it. That being said, who wants to be bothered sharpening steak knives in the first place, and is there anyone who can really tell the difference blindfolded whether a piece of meat has been cut with a strait blade or a serrated one? With that in mind I ordered these knives thinking my husband would like something heavy and 'manly' on the table. ufda. Be careful what you wish for - I was expecting something substantial like the knives at Outback Steak House - these things make those look like butter knives! You could literally, and I am not kidding, gut a deer with these knives. They are just over seven inches long, over an inch wide at the widest point and weigh over seven ounces by my digital scale. You could take these to any gun show in the country and sell them all day long. If there is a 'he-man' on your gift list, this product will be very well received, without a doubt. They have what are called micro-serrations along the blade which, in lighter knives just shreds meat and makes a mess for the most part. However, because these are so heavy they simply plow their way through any product they encounter. Case in point: ribs the other night - I heard a 'wow' from the other end of the table - my husband had cut right through a big piece of cartilage and didn't even know it until he went to re-portion the meat and saw the white showing through. As another reviewer noted, these knives are truly not for children. We've been putting them in the dishwasher with no ill effects. Oh, also of note, these knives will not fit in any knife block I've ever seen nor any that I have, they're just too large. If you want some serious adult-only knives that will cut through anything you're ever going to find on your plate, these are for you - I've never seen anything this substantial for this price anywhere else. If you have small hands or if you're looking to complete and existing set, or if you're looking for something with a pretty look or if children will be using them I'd recommend you pass these by. |

These knives appear well made with three stout rivets holding the handles to the blade base. The blade is very sharp and appears to be very good quality steel. These knives are heavy and quite easy to control. Surprisingly the box is well made, too.
