The Barracuda 7200.11 drive delivers up to 43 percent power savings over the previous Seagate desktop generation without sacrificing performance, giving customers the ability to manufacture eco-friendly PC systems and external storage systems that meet energy-savings requirements. Like all other Seagate drives, the Barracuda 7200.11 product family complies with the Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) directive that limits the use of hazardous materials in electronic goods. With the Barracuda 7200.11 drive, our customers can have the best of both worlds—top hard-drive performance and a high-capacity drive with a very small eco-footprint. Seagate is committed to minimizing the impact of our products and operations on the environment. We have implemented production efficiency measures, such as replacing or renovating less-efficient equipment, resulting in a 20 percent increase in production efficiency on a perhard-drive basis. In just six months this delivered a savings of 158.93 million kWh, or enough energy to power nearly 15,000 U.S. homes for one year. Seagate also has deployed aggressive waste minimization and recycling programs in facilities worldwide.

Seagate 1TB Solid Soldier

I only purchase and use Seagate drives exclusively for compatibility and dependability. We have a Drobo, Synology Diskstations and Servers that incorporate this exact 1TB drive very well, ST31000528AS. It is reliable, quiet and stays fairly cool with average cooling, < 37 celisus or 99 degrees. For other reasons, we use Seagate because some other brands failed. It's fair to say that there are many other brands that are reliable as well, but I try to stick with proven technology and equipment. Loosing your hard drive or several hard drives because of "equipment failure" makes you become a bit paranoid and skeptical about the brand that you were using, not to mention all the headaches of trying to restore or recoup your files from backups. I use Seagate drives at home too, but I don't use this particular model. If I was a home user needing Terabyte storage, then this is the drive to consider. You'd pay more for a faster drive with a higher cache, so access and speed is above average but not optimal. So, if you can find this drive for $60 or less it is a great bargain at todays prices. This is a solid soldier (IMHO).

The drive came as advertised, in about the time frame it was supposed to come. It worked right out of the box and I was able to get my wife's computer set up with the new drive the same day. So far it's working out great, and she has lots of free space on her drive now.

I ordered 2 of this from Amazon. Put them into NAS (DNS-323) and configure as RAID-1. Worked in a couple of days, and then NAS kept saying my RAID-1 is degraded. Pull the both out of NAS, and use Seagate tool to test. One of them failed SMART test.
Return and refund is under way.
